Merfolk History

This flash fiction takes place toward the end of Enthralled (Farseen Chronicles Book 2).

“Why do some of your merfolk have legs? And why do some of those with legs have fins and others have toes?” Seven-year-old Mia looked up in surprise. She was paging through Star’s sketchbook. She loved looking at all the creatures from the Farseen. One day she would go there. She would be a great explorer and have wonderful adventures and perhaps Fae bards would write songs about her.

“You don’t know about river merfolk and sea merfolk?” Star asked in surprise.

Blessing in Disguise

Spoiler Alert. This flash fiction takes place in the first half of Enthralled (Farseen Chronicles Book 2).

Star looked through her folder of documents needed in the Seen. It looked a lot like a similar folder she had in the Farseen. Beings of so-called higher intelligence always had paperwork.

Wizards and Demons

Stand alone flash fiction.

Downing his drink, he took the book out of his breast pocket and placed it on the bar. When he tapped the bar with the empty glass, the bartender refilled the scotch without a word. He placed his hand on the book; surprised the action was comforting. He sipped this one; getting drunk would not be of value no matter how much it appealed to him.

Read 50 Books, Write 50,000 Words

Just as I finished the 2015 fifty book reading challenge (pause for applause), I saw this post from Writerish Ramblings, Let’s Talk NaNoWriMo. I had heard a little about National Novel Writing Month last November but didn’t pay much attention.  This time I did. The premiss is that you write every day starting November 1st with the goal of having 50K words written in your novel by November 30th, that translates to 1,667 words a day.   Continue reading “Read 50 Books, Write 50,000 Words”

2nd Novel Published

BookCvr2Options copyEvery once in a while I have to step back and admire the view from where I currently stand.  Today is such a day.  After years of writing and keeping those words – and worlds – safely hidden, I find it somewhat surprising that I am announcing my second full length novel is available. It’s a good feeling to continue to follow this dream, and best of all, my hobby is paying for itself. Don’t get me wrong.  No other author will tremble in fear that my book will shoot past them on the charts, but a hobby that pays for itself is a wonderful thing. Besides, I would be writing anyway. It’s what I do.

Enthralled, Farseen Chronicles Book 2, is available digitally at Amazon. The paperback copy will be available November 2015.

Embarrassed

Spoiler Alert. This flash fiction takes place before the Freed Fae War in the second half of Deceived. It’s a deleted scene from the book.

*****

After a hard run, the shifter cut through a gully. Tempe ran up the more stable hillside, jumped off an overhang, and beheaded him before her feet hit the ground. She stuck the landing. Breathing hard from the run, she felt, rather than saw, the first drops on her brow. Fire, not rain. She called a wall of water to absorb the fire droplets that rained down on her head. She looked around and found her new opponent, a wizard, with serious control of his powers. The fire drops landed only on her, or as was now the case, her water wall.

Reading Challenge Status

It’s time for an update on Writing Leaves No Time For Reading.  I realized a while back I had not been reading.  Between the day job and writing and occasionally talking to my family, there just wasn’t time.  I missed it.  I truly enjoy reading and I joined the 2015 Reading Challenge. Since I love organization, my first step was to create a spreadsheet of the types of books I needed to read and identify which books I would read.  For those who don’t want to check out the web site, it’s a fifty book challenge.  You pick the books as long as they fall into the prescribed categories.

Consequences

This Farseen Chronicles flash fiction takes place during the first half of Deceived. There are no plot spoilers in this story.

*****

“You ask him,” Lucas pushed his twin forward.

Logan twisted and pushed Lucas back, “It’s your question. You ask.”

Stretched out in the sunroom, Bryce hid his smile, but didn’t look up from the seriously disappointing book in his hands. He would welcome the interruption.

Playing Publishing Catch Up

The digital copy of Deceived has been available for three months.

Good news:  Sales IMG_0725are higher than I expected with the limited (word of mouth) marketing I’ve done.

Bad news:  I’m a bit behind on publishing a print copy.
