The Worlds of My Mind

Author

NRTucker

As a child, N. R. Tucker wrote short stories about magical places to escape the perceived boredom of life in a small town. As she grew, the stories and worlds expanded. N. R. writes a fantasy series, the Farseen Chronicles, and a science fiction series, Finding Earth. Her website includes flash fiction, maps, and other information about the worlds of her mind. When she's not writing, she's hiking and sometimes posts info on her travels.

Titles and Taglines

Blogging 101’s second assignment is to change the title and tagline of my blog.  I decline since I’m please with both.  For anyone who knows me, the decline will be a surprise.  I was always ‘that kid’ in school.  The one who did assignments, listened to the teacher and never acted out.  I’m older now (a lot older) and occasionally march to my own drummer.

Fear of the Publish Button

My blog started as a way to track my process toward publishing and perhaps sharing some of what I’ve learned with other self-publishing hopefuls.  Over the last few years I’ve written five novels and three short stories in the Farseen Chronicles.  I didn’t share this world with anyone until I watched my daughter start an art business.  Her faith and determination inspired me to share the world I created.  I didn’t want to wake up in ten years and wonder ‘What if…”.

Just a Little Me Time

My mother-in-law decided that I needed some ‘me’ time.  Well, it sounded good in theory so I set aside this weekend to work on my book, cover art, and all the little details I need to complete to publish.  Friday night started off well.  My daughter made dinner while I had a glass of wine and watched Frozen for the first time.  Notice that no ‘me’ work got done, but it was a fun family evening.

Diet! Crisis! And Missed Deadlines! Oh My!!!

Where to begin? The first of August I started down the road to do something about my health. With my doctor’s support I started a detox/hormone balance program that included a very unique diet; however, I can’t argue with success. I’ve lost over 30 pounds and feel great.  It wasn’t all smooth sailing. I nearly caved when life interfered with my structured plans.

Procrastination

When last I blogged I was bemoaning the fact that my versioning got out of sync due to my dependence on technology.  I completed the compare of the various versions of the book and am now reading through Deceived again.  I have been working on the maps of the world I’ve created and on the cover art for the first book.

Sometimes Technology Ain’t Grand

Just as I was thinking that I had a handle on publishing I found myself in an interesting pickle. A couple of months ago I had serious Windows 8.1 upgrade issues.  The result:  my Surface Pro and my laptop got out of sync and I didn’t realize I wasn’t access the same version of the document on both machines..  Needless to say not all of my changes have been made to the copy of the book I thought was almost ready.  ARGGGGGGG!

My Arrival on the Blog Scene

As a child I spent countless hours creating worlds and characters for short stories that I wrote to pass the time in the hot southern summers.  I never had the guts to share those stories except for the occasional school project.  As an adult I spent many years working in the IT field and flights of fantasy were few and far between; but I missed the characters and worlds I had created.

Time passed, my kids grew up… and I did too.  I decided to return to my fantasy worlds and try my hand at writing a full novel.  The world I always thought would make a good book refused to speak to me, almost as if I had grown up and could no longer hear its whispers.   Then a new world opened up. One my mind had never visited before.
