While driving east on US 19 in North Carolina, there is a small pull-off on the right with a short walk to a viewing platform of this double waterfall. The pull-off is east of Cherokee and west of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The waterfalls are beautiful.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5827There is a steep, slippery trail to the left of the viewing platform that leads down to the base of the falls. Ropes provide the only handholds, and they are needed. (I did say slippery.) I do not recommend descending to the base of the falls unless you are comfortable with this type of descent, and then I urge caution. This is not a hike, but a way to look at the waterfalls from the bottom.

If you find yourself between Maggie Valley and Cherokee, or if you’re on the southern portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway, I recommend a short side trip to see Soco Falls.
