By Any Other Name

Spoiler Alert. This flash fiction takes place before the Freed Fae War in the second half of Deceived, Book 1 in the Farseen Chronicles.

“You were so brave to go to the Farseen. And you saw unicorns,” Cinnamon said as they walked down the street.

As soon as they were away from their human friends, Cinnamon and her brothers demanded an account of Willow’s trip to the Farseen. They had rushed to finish setting up their Science Fair projects after school but still missed the bus; so they headed to Bryce’s office for a ride home, as they had been instructed. The new rules aggravated the young shape shifters but even they knew they weren’t equal to fighting adult fae on the hunt.

Giants

“Hey, I got a question.”

Mitch approached her with the confidence of a six-year-old addressing a trusted adult. Few adults would have interrupted her when she was growling over her laptop. Fewer would have asked a question.

Tempest looked up and smiled, “What’s the question?”

Rosemary and Thyme

She had always been comfortable in the dark, had lived her life in the shadows. It was why they never saw her coming. Too bad her target didn’t believe in a low profile.

He moseyed down the street singing a silly pub song. He could have been a cause of fear; but he was slender and under six feet tall, and appeared to be a happy drunk. The few people he encountered at this late hour gave him plenty of room, but smiled at his grand gestures. All would remember him.
